The Commanders have struggled to just four wins on the season under Ron Rivera’s watch, and it appears that will bring the veteran coach’s time in Washington to an end after four seasons.

 

Rivera was hired by the Commanders during the 2020 NFL offseason.

He led the franchise through a tumultuous period during which it changed its name twice and endured scandal after scandal under former owner Daniel Snyder.

 

Rivera guided Washington with a steady hand off the field amid the chaos.

 

On it, however, the team never found consistent success, peaking as an 8-8-1 team in 2022 and making the playoffs just once, which came during Rivera’s first season.

 

Washington is now expected to begin its search for a new coach for the first time under Josh Harris’ ownership group.

 

As such, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect and what the new owner might be looking for in a candidate.
