Tottenham Hotspur continue to keep close tabs on Serie A prospects, with Fiorentina teenager Michael Kayode emerging as the latest talent to catch their attention.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Spurs harbour a genuine interest in the 19-year-old, who resembles ex-Udinese wing-back Destiny Udogie, albeit operates on the opposite flank.
Udogie swapped Udine for London last summer and enjoyed an outstanding maiden season in the Premier League, quickly becoming one of Ange Postecoglou’s key players.
The 21-year-old left-back amassed two goals and three assists in 28 league matches, though an injury curtailed his momentum towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Kayode, on the other hand, starred for Fiorentina.
In his breakout season at Artemio Franchi, the Italian prodigy collected 26 Serie A appearances, adding six in the Europa Conference League, as La Viola lost another grand final to Olympiacos.
Committed to a long-term contract, Kayode is in no hurry to leave Florence.
Fiorentina are also reluctant to sell their highly-rated youngster despite being approached by Juventus during the winter transfer window.
As per Calciomercato’s report in February, the Tuscan outfit slapped a £10 million price tag on Kayode’s head after the Turin heavyweights enquired about his services.
That’s hardly a prohibitive price, especially for a club like Tottenham.
But despite their tendency to bring top-notch Serie A talents to the Premier League, Spurs could play this slowly, considering Pedro Porro has nailed down the starting berth as his own.
Kayode would probably play second fiddle to the Spaniard, who took the Premier League by storm in 2023/24, pushing Emerson Royal to the fringes in North London.
With his first-team opportunities at a premium, the Brazilian is desperate for an exit and has already instructed his agents to arrange his transfer to AC Milan.
Emerson’s departure would amplify the need for a new right-back, and that’s where Kayode could come into play.
