Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan is enjoying a strong run of form, having scored a couple of goals this season.
Last time round, Barry Bannan scored just the one Championship goal for Sheffield Wednesday. Already this season he has two.
The 34-year-old, who signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract in the summer, also has an assist to his name, earning a nomination for the Championship Player of the Month award for September.
Whilst his contract length wasn’t revealed, it’s widely speculated that the club handed Bannan just a one-year extension at Hillsborough.
Speaking ahead of the return to action against Burnley this weekend, Danny Rohl has discussed the future prospect of having the replace the long-serving Sheffield Wednesday captain.
Rohl told The Star: “It’s not the easiest thing to find a replacement for Barry Bannan.
“Of course it is something we have to look for and we will do this, it’s a top topic for us in the recruitment.”

Daniel Gazdag
The name Daniel Gazdag may ring a bell for Owls fans; Sheffield Wednesday were linked with Gazdag in the January transfer window this year.
Attacking midfielder Gazdag is actually out of contract at the end of 2025, where his contract with MLS Philadelphia Union.
Hungarian international Gazdag has already netted 17 goals in the 2024 MLS season, assisting two more in 29 league appearances.
Union do have the option to extend his contract, however. But Gazdag is certainly one for Wednesday to keep an eye on next year.
John Swift
West Brom midfielder John Swift is out of contract at the end of this season, having spent the last three seasons with the Baggies.
In 93 Championship appearances for the Baggies, former Reading favourite Swift has scored 15 goals and assisted seven more. But in nine league outings this season, he’s yet to record a goal contribution.
With West Brom eyeing promotion from the Championship, currently sitting in 4th place of the table, Swift may well be one they let go next summer.
Rohl has already gotten the best out of some misfiring Sheffield Wednesday players since his arrival last year; so someone like Swift, if his poor scoring season goes on, could be tempted by the chance to work under Rohl.
Will Hughes
29-year-old Will Hughes sees his Crystal Palace deal expire at the end of this season, which is his fourth season with the Eagles.
In that time, Hughes has proved an underrated player, featuring 91 times in all competitions including 30 times in the Premier League last season.
But he’s playing a much more bit part role this time round, so whether or not Palace go on to offer him a new deal remains to be seen.
He’d add definite Premier League quality and experience to Rohl’s first-team squad. Though it would prove to be a difficult pursuit with Hughes likely to get widespread attention should he become a free agent.
