Wrexham star Ryan Barnett is in great form right now and his performances at the STōK Cae Ras must seriously sting for Shrewsbury Town.

Wrexham are set to return to League One action this weekend.

The international break is finally coming to an end and Wrexham will be facing off against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Wrexham head to South Yorkshire and will take on the Millers in a crucial clash on the road.

Evans believes that Wrexham are the ‘Harlem Globetrotters’ of League One and has admitted fears over his side’s set piece defending.

That may play right into Wrexham’s hands, with Phil Parkinson’s side so good from crosses and set pieces.

Ryan Barnett on Shrewsbury Town

One of the key man in that regard is Ryan Barnett.

The Wrexham wing back is a constant threat up the right flank and will certainly get the ball into the box at every opportunity.

All four of Wrexham’s goals in the 4-1 win over Northampton Town before the international break came from Barnett’s wing wizardry.

Barnett contributed three assists and Wrexham’s other goal was a Barnett cross which found James McClean, who teed up Jack Marriott to score.

Northampton just couldn’t handle Barnett’s wing play and that resulted in George Dobson and Humphrey Ker praising the Wrexham ace.

This kind of form is a dream for Wrexham but a complete nightmare for Shrewsbury Town.

Barnett was not only born in Shrewsbury but came up in the club’s ranks before being let go in 2021.

Barnett thrived with Solihull Moors to earn his move to Wrexham, where he has taken his game to another level.

Shrewsbury must be sick at the sight of a former youth player shining for rivals Wrexham and Barnett has commented on his improvement.

Speaking to The Athletic, Barnett admitted that he now feels ‘unrecognisable’ from the player he was at Shrewsbury.

Barnett believes that he has matured and improvement thanks to playing more games and gaining experience, making him the player he is at Wrexham now.

“From being released by Shrewsbury to now, I’d say I am unrecognisable from what I was. I have the qualities I had back then but I’ve matured and have a much more experienced head on my shoulders,” said Barnett.

Barnett wanted to be a Shrewsbury legend

Barnett is now a Wrexham hero and supporters will be looking for more superb displays up the right flank when League One action resumes.

The 25-year-old is now staying put after a contract extension clause was activated, which should only enhance his reputation as a Wrexham favourite.

This could have been Barnett’s trajectory at Shrewsbury and he has admitted wanting to become a ‘legend’ with his home town club.

Shrewsbury must be kicking themselves over Barnett but their loss has certainly become Wrexham’s gain and there is so much more to come from Barnett moving forward.
