Wolves are still searching for their first win and were denied their second point of the season at the death in last week’s defeat to Manchester City courtesy of John Stones’ late header.

The result left Wolves languishing bottom of the Premier League still with just one point despite scoring in all but one of their eight games so far.

O’Neil told his weekly press conference: “We’re ready to fight, no matter what. As you could see with the supporters against Manchester City, when we had to dig in and fight and scrap for basically all of the game, they’re right there with us.

“That will continue to be the case with the club, the team, myself, the staff, we will all just continue to fight and push, and this weekend is a great opportunity for us to go and show that again.”

Wolves have had a tough start to the season with fixtures against City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa coming among the first eight and it does not get easier with Brighton having started strongly under Fabian Hurzeler. The Seagulls come into the match having won two on the bounce and are currently fifth.

“It will be a great test for us,” O’Neil added. “I’m looking forward to taking the lads into battle there again, and going there against whatever people may think our chances are, and just putting on a real rugged display.

“It’ll be a good game, I’m sure it will. Another big test, they’ve got lots of attacking talent in the 11 and on the bench, so we’re going to need to be right at our best again to give ourselves a chance of taking three points.”

Sam Johnstone missed the defeat to City last week through injury but in stepped Jose Sa, who put in an impressive performance against the champions.

O’Neil said: “We’ll see how he (Johnstone) is but he’s come through training, so we’ll make a call tomorrow on the goalkeeper situation. I’m really clear on who’s the best goalkeeper to start for us tomorrow.”

Hwang Hee-chan remains out with an ankle injury while Boubacar Traore, Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez and Sasa Kalajdzic remain out.
