Arsenal handed boost in race for £46m ex-Premier League star as club ‘willing to listen to offers’

Arsenal and Aston Villa are both reportedly keen on Barcelona and former Manchester City attacker Ferran Torres.

Arsenal have are said to have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Barcelona and former Manchester City attacker Ferran Torres, with fresh reports suggesting the Spanish side are willing to listen to offers for the 24-year-old.

Torres already has Premier League experience after he spent 18 months at Manchester City between August 2020 and January 2022. He made 43 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists. He joined City from Valencia for a fee of £27.8m and they sold him for £45.7m to Barcelona.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona could listen to offers for the attacker amid claims that Arsenal are keen on landing him to bolster their attacking options in their title fight against Liverpool and Manchester City.

Torres has played 10 games for Barcelona so far this season and has scored one goal including two assists which have come in La Liga despite the Spaniard also making two Champions League appearances.

However, Sport added that Hansi Flick’s side doesn’t want to let any players leave in January so a deal for Torres to the Emirates may have to wait until next summer which is on a similar timeline to the Gunners’ reported interest in Brentford midfielder Bryan Mbuemo.

Arsenal face Premier League competition to sign Torres

The Gunners aren’t the only team in the Premier League who are reportedly keen on Torres as former Arsenal boss Unai Emery is also looking at the Barcelona man as a possible signing for Aston Villa.

Emery’s side sit on the same number of points as Arsenal after nine games so far this season following the Gunners dropping points against both Liverpool and Bournemouth in their last two matches.

If Arsenal and Aston Villa find themselves in a bidding war, it could drive Ferran Torres’ price up, with Sport reporting that both teams are prepared to pay ‘a reasonable price’ for the attacker who is valued at £25 million according to TransferMarkt.

Arsenal looking to add more goal scoring talent

The Gunners have been linked to several attackers this season, as Mikel Arteta aims to bridge the gap between his side and title rivals Manchester City. One name that has been touted over a move to the Emirates is Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish international is having an Erling Haaland-like season, scoring 12 goals in nine league games for the Portuguese side. Furthermore, Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney were both linked to Arsenal over the summer.

However, more recently, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is reportedly a target for the Gunners too as he is currently undergoing contract negotiations at St. James’ Park which have been claimed to have stalled in recent weeks.
