Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger is looking to bring in a new Washington Mystics General Manager. But once he makes that hire, there won’t be as many quality head coaches to bring on.
First, the Indiana Fever hired former Connecticut Sun head coach Stephanie White. White was also a former Fever head coach herself.
In addition, the Chicago Sky hired former Las Vegas Aces assistant coach Tyler Marsh.
The Fever and Sky are two of the WNBA teams that have more certainty about whom they will build around after the 2026 offseason when a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is expected to take effect. The Fever have superstar point guard Caitlin Clark while the Sky have forward Angel Reese. Clark and Reese are entering their sophomore seasons in 2025.
The Mystics’ front office and head coach vacancies are high risk, high reward. Should Washington get the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, they will likely pick Connecticut Huskies point guard Paige Bueckers, who would be Washington’s franchise player. In addition, the Mystics may not have to “deconstruct” their roster like the Washington Wizards NBA team has. If anything, the Mystics vacancies would be quite desirable.
