Nottingham Forest have moved onto bigger and better things since offloading some deadweight in the summer, but it seems as if one former player could return to the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo has built a top-quality squad at Nottingham Forest after making some shrewd additions in the summer.
The unimaginable start to the season is evidence of that, with contributions coming from all over the park, as well as Chris Wood’s obvious dominance in front of goal.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | For | Against | Diff | Points |
1 | 10 | 8 | 1 | 1 | 19 | 6 | 13 | 25 | |
2 | Manchester City | 10 | 7 | 2 | 1 | 21 | 11 | 10 | 23 |

Elliot Anderson has provided the most assists at Forest this season, whilst Morgan Gibbs-White has just one goal to his name, but that doesn’t accurately represent how good he’s been.
With January on the horizon, it appears as if Nuno Espirito Santo already has one eye on a potential addition as one former player is being linked with a return.
Nottingham Forest interesting in re-signing Gonazlo Montiel
Gonzalo Montiel left Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 to join Sevilla.
However, things haven’t gone to plan for the Argentinian, and he’s now looking for a way out, with the Spanish club happy to part company.
Interestingly, Estadio Deportivo have listed Nottingham Forest and Everton as interested parties from the summer.
It’s said that a January deal is there to be done for the World Cup winner, and Nottingham Forest or Everton would likely be presented with reasonable terms to close a transfer.
Gonzalo Montiel’s time at Nottingham Forest
Gonzalo Montiel was involved in wins over Newcastle and Manchester United last season, but he failed to truly win over Nuno Espirito Santo.
In total, the player made 19 appearances for Forest in all competitions and registered two assists.
His biggest issue was the consistency in his performances, but it wasn’t all his own doing as he was used sparingly at times at the City Ground.
Interestingly, Nottingham Forest actually came close to signing Montiel in the summer, and it looks like Nuno wants him back, which is strange when you consider Aina and Neco Williams are at the club.
