Sunderland could find their next Amad Diallo in the January transfer window with a Premier League loan.

Barring the recent top performance away from home against Swansea City, which saw Regis Le Bris’ side come from two goals down to win 3-2, the Black Cats have had a fairly torrid spell recently in front of goal.

There are no issues with the personnel at the club, however, injuries have plagued the current Sunderland squad, with Romaine Mundle currently undergoing a spell on the sidelines, and he has since been joined by young prodigy Tommy Watson, who limped off in the draw with Bristol City.

As a result, it should be obvious for Le Bris and Kristjaan Speakman that a winger could be targeted, one that is able to utilise their pace and carry a constant goal threat, something that Amad Diallo was able to do during his loan stint in Wearside in the 2022/23 Championship campaign.

It should be a case of Sunderland repeating that fate that brought them success with the 22-year-old Ivorian, who is now shining for Man United, and three names stand out as potential contenders that the Black Cats could pick up this January.

David Datro Fofana

One name on this list that may be familiar to some Sunderland fans is David Datro Fofana, who was actually linked with a late move to the Stadium of Light on Deadline Day in the summer.

The attacker currently finds himself enduring a loan spell in the Turkish top flight with Göztepe, however, game-time has been far and few for the 21-year-old, with him being named in the starting 11 on just three occasions this season.

Parent club Chelsea could easily recognise that their talented youngster needs to have his game time prioritised, which could be a case if he was recalled and sent on loan to Wearside.

Louie Barry

Another player that Sunderland have already been linked with ahead of the January transfer window is Louie Barry, the Aston Villa loanee currently plying his trade in League One with Stockport County.

The 21-year-old left winger has already managed 14 goals in just 20 league appearances so far in the 2024/25 season, and Aston Villa are reportedly looking at giving him a Championship loan move for the latter end of the campaign, with Sunderland and a host of other clubs looking to snap him up.

Brajan Gruda

The third player that Sunderland could potentially capture is Brighton winger Brajan Gruda, who signed for the club this summer.

The German 20-year-old has notched six appearances for the Seagulls in the Premier League, with all seeing him come from off the bench.

Having not managed a single goal or assist so far since he signed for the club, Brighton could potentially sanction a move to see him drop division in order to improve his confidence, whilst also ensuring that he gets more game time.

With a record of 28 games in the Bundesliga last season, bagging four goals from out wide, it is likely that Gruda would thrive at this level for Sunderland.
