Ty Bracey doesn’t believe there will be any repercussions from Aston Villa after Emi Martinez lashed out at a cameraman after Argentina lost to Colombia.
Footage emerged late on 10 September, from TyC Sports via X, showing the Villans’ shot-stopper hitting a camera after a 2-1 World Cup qualifier defeat.
The Colombian Association of Sports Journalists has since demanded “that FIFA issue an exemplary sanction” against the 32-year-old [ACORD Colombia].
Villa podcaster, who features on the Villa Social, Bracey thinks his actions were done out of passion as opposed to malice so there will be no punishment.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s a passion thing, there’s no malice in it.
“He doesn’t like losing and it’s not something that he’s done a lot with Argentina so it isn’t a hugely familiar feeling.
“I understand the passion, it comes from a good place and I can imagine after a loss the last thing you want is a camera in your face.
“Losing isn’t a nice feeling and I don’t think he’ll feel like he deserved to lose the game. He hasn’t hit anyone, it’s just a heated moment that I understand, so there won’t be any repercussions from that.“
Aston Villa star Emi Martinez could face Argentina punishment
The Villa goalkeeper is a passionate and somewhat hotheaded player which often goes in his favour and allows him to be the sensation that he is.
Sometimes this does let him down with a memorable example being the bizarre Lille penalty debacle in last season’s Conference League campaign.
There is so much good about the Argentine that these moments are often overlooked and utilised in his play to get into the heads of the opposition.
On this occasion, there is no doubt that the ex-Arsenal man is in the wrong but has arguably been provoked by an eager camera operator after a defeat.
Despite the unrest from the Colombian squad and journalists, it appears that it will be water under the bridge when he returns to Villa Park.
In other Aston Villa news, a summer transfer has been mooted as a priority admission was shared.
