Swansea City are hopeful of clinching a double loan deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien and highly-rated Manchester City youngster Jacob Wright before Monday night’s deadline.
It’s understood O’Brien has agreed personal terms with the Swans, who appear to have won the race for his signature, amid alleged interest from Preston North End, Luton Town, and Derby County.
The sale of Matt Grimes is believed to have given the Swans more financial muscle in terms of the package they can offer the 26-year-old, which in turn may well have pulled them ahead of the chasing pack.
A medical is likely to be undertaken at some point tomorrow, with O’Brien seemingly poised to become the club’s second signing of the window, following the capture of Hannes Delcroix, who has joined on loan from Burnley. Sign up for our Swansea City newsletter here.
O’Brien could well be joined by another loan capture in the form of Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright.
Sources had initially played down suggestions the Swans had agreed a deal for the 19-year-old, but it seems he too is poised to complete a move to South Wales.
The England under-20 international, who primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, is understood to have traveled to Fairwood today to further discuss a move, with personal terms still yet to be agreed.
However, the club is hopeful of getting a loan deal over the line, with the move likely to contain an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen where this double acquisition, should it happen, would leave the club’s pursuit of Peterborough United’s Hector Kyprianou.
The Swans had submitted a bid for the versatile holding midfielder, who also operates as a center-back, but are seemingly yet to strike a deal.
Finally, the club is also hoping to make a move for an attacking midfielder and a winger before the close of the deadline.
