Former Wales striker-turned-BBC-pundit Iwan Roberts has pushed forward the names of Alan Tate, Rob Edwards, and Liam Rosenior for the vacant Swansea job.

Both Tate’s and Edwards’ names are on the early bookies’ long list of candidates for the position, although neither features among the favorites at this stage.

The likes of Eric Ramsay, Des Buckingham, Jesse Marsch and interim manager Alan Sheehan are the contenders bookmakers see as potential appointments

Roberts, speaking on the Feast of Football podcast, put the suggestions of Swans legend Tate and ex-Luton boss Edwards into the Swansea mix.

“I think Rob Edwards deserves another opportunity,” he said.

“Maybe someone like Alan Tate, who has been by Steve Cooper’s side for five or six years now and has seen success at Swansea, getting to the play-offs, and getting Forest back into the Premier League.

“Maybe it’s time for someone like Alan Tate to make the step from assistant to number one.”

Roberts also tossed former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior into the conversation. Rosenior is currently in charge of French top-flight club Strasbourg and has earned a creditable coaching reputation despite his relative inexperience.

“What a job he did at Hull, finishing seventh with an attractive brand of football,” Roberts added. “Hull didn’t think he could take them to the next level, and look where they are now.”

Swans job attractive—Vokes

On the same podcast, Sam Vokes said he believes the Swans job is an attractive one for candidates.

Swansea’s decline over the past decade or so has been marked, with Premier League football now long gone and issues on and off the field prevalent.

Vokes, though, sees big potential in the position, having experienced playing in SA1 during Swansea’s peak years in the top flight.

“I think it’s an attractive option for a manager because it’s a club that expect to be doing better than they are and have been there in recent years,” former Wales striker Vokes said.

“The last 10-15 years have been very successful for Swansea. If you can get it right, I have been there in the Premier League… that place is bouncing and is a top place to play football.”

Sheehan: Blame me if we lose

Caretaker boss Sheehan says the blame should lie with him if Swansea fail to beat Blackburn on Saturday.

The post-Luke Williams era starts in earnest against Rovers, with Sheehan once again charged with keeping the hot seat warm while the search gets under way for a permanent appointment.

The visitors are faring far better than their hosts tomorrow, with a solid playoff push panning out at Ewood Park, but Sheehan feels there is enough quality in Swansea’s squad to hurt their opponents.

“I believe in the players; we all believe in them, and I think we have to go and give them that freedom to try and get three points,” he said.

“If we win the game, give all that positive energy to the players. If we lose the game, look at me because I have been given the responsibility to get them ready for this game.

“If we lose, it’s on me, nobody else.”
