Injured Aston Villa star says he should return to face Bayern Munich

Aston Villa kicked off their Champions League campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Young Boys.

Next up for Unai Emery and Aston Villa is a Midlands derby clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Villans have lost just the one game against Arsenal at Villa Park, which sees them sit fifth in the table on goal difference with three wins to go with the one loss.

Ollie Watkins was spotted with an ice pack during the midweek clash with Young Boys. This sparked plenty of debate online about whether this now puts Watkins in doubt for the Wolves game.

However, it has been claimed that Aston Villa aren’t too worried about Watkins’ fitness and he should be able to start this weekend.

Interestingly, another Aston Villa player had a bit of an update come out about them recently…

Matty Cash shares when he could return from injury for Aston Villa

Matty Cash was substituted against Arsenal after suffering a hamstring injury.

Aston Villa have used Lamare Bogarde at right back in his absence, and to be fair to the youngster he’s done a very good job for Emery.

However, it appears as if it won’t be long until Matty Cash returns.

Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, the Poland international revealed the game he’s targeting a return for.

“I’m hoping to train next week because I can’t miss that Bayern Munich game. I’m going to do everything I can to be back for that.”

Matty Cash faces an uphill task upon Aston Villa injury return

Lamare Bogarde’s form in the Premier League will make it difficult for Matty Cash to immediately force his way back into the starting lineup at Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old has been at the club since 2020 after joining from Feyenoord.

Matty Cash does have the upper hand when it comes to experience and that extra attacking intent, so it’ll be interesting to see who Emery picks.

Interestingly, Emery was supposedly happy to sell Cash in the summer, but nothing materialised.
