Exclusive: Sheffield United and Swansea City make moves to sign Ethan Galbraith

Sheffield United and Swansea are racing to sign Leyton Orient ace Ethan Galbraith, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brisbane Road club is braced for interest in the Northern Ireland international after failing to win promotion and with the player entering the final year of his contract.

Galbraith had an outstanding season with Leyton Orient, helping the club reach the League One Play-Off final only to lose to Charlton.

The 24-year-old’s versatility for Orient, featuring mostly at right back but also in various midfield roles, has brought him to the attention of a number of clubs.

Sheffield United and Swansea City eyeing Leyton Orient talent

Back in the January transfer window, Football Insider revealed that Swansea had seen a £1 million bid for Galbraith rejected by Leyton Orient.

The midfielder instead remained with Richie Wellens’ side but is again attracting attention after they missed out on promotion to the Championship.

It is understood that Swansea have again registered their interest in signing the former Man United youngster this summer, although they are not alone with that.

Sheffield United are another Championship team who have made it clear they are keen to do a deal for the 24-year-old.

With just a year remaining on his current contract, this could be Leyton Orient’s last chance to cash in on the versatile midfielder.

Both of these clubs will be aiming to be busy in the summer, as they aim to challenge for promotion in the 2025/26 campaign.

As was revealed by Football InsiderSwansea have signed defender Ricardo Santos on a free transfer from Bolton, with the center-back already becoming their third summer signing.

By contrast, Sheffield United must recover from the disappointment of missing out on promotion back to the Premier League after their defeat to Sunderland in the Championship play-off final.

Football Insider recently reported that Sheffield United are deciding whether or not to sack manager Chris Wilder after missing out on that immediate return to the top flight of English football.

In the meantime, they continue to explore potential new additions to their squad, with Galbraith now emerging as one such option.

The Northern Ireland international previously also played for Doncaster Rovers and Salford City on loan before joining Leyton Orient in the summer of 2023.
