Harry Darling deal close as Rangers ready transfer after major interest

Russell Martin is looking to reunite with Swansea City center-back Harry Darling at Rangers this summer transfer window.

The Englishman’s current contract at the Swans expires at the end of June, and he could leave as a free agent soon.

Darling has emerged as a target at Ibrox, with the 25-year-old surely a bargain signing for any club that can get him.

Martin will be without Leon Balogun next season, and it would make sense for the Light Blues to secure the Swansea defender’s signature soon.

Norwich City and Birmingham City join Rangers in the race for Darling’s transfer.

Norwich City and Birmingham City have joined the Gers in the race for Darling, according to The Scottish Sun.

The news outlet reports (14 June) that Martin is keen to bring the 25-year-old to Ibrox but will have to contend with competition from elsewhere.

It’s been claimed that a decision on the English center-back’s decision could be close, with major interest in him.

Martin worked with the defender at MK Dons and Swansea, but it remains to be seen whether the Scottish manager can convince him.

Martin needs new defensive transfers at Ibrox

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have promised to spend a significant sum at the Gers this summer, and they must now show that to fans.

While Darling’s wages may be a bit too steep, the Light Blues will be getting him on a free transfer, which makes it a no-brainer.

Conor Coady is another defender being eyed at Ibrox, and it looks like Martin has a clear priority during his initial days at the Glaswegian outfit.

Rangers showed their defensive frailties domestically under Barry Ferguson, and injuries in the backline didn’t help the cause.

John Souttar spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines during the current campaign, with Dujon Sterling also struggling with fitness issues.

The Gers undoubtedly will need more than one new center-back if Robin Propper decides to return to FC Twente in the coming weeks.

Darling would be a quality signing for the Bears and one that could propel them to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.
