Liverpool targets $186million defensive duo as Arne Slot eyes ‘bumper spending spree’

The latest Liverpool transfer gossip sees the Reds linked with an England defensive duo as well as Real Madrid midfielder who has 'not lived up to his potential'

It is reported by GIVEMESPORT that, while Liverpool prioritised signing a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, defense is a key area that the Reds are looking to strengthen in.

Liverpool made Martin Zubimendi its primary target during the summer transfer window, but it is extraordinarily claimed that Guehi and Branthwaite could both be targeted during the January transfer window.

It appears unlikely that two players who are so important for their current clubs will be allowed to leave by Everton and Crystal Palace midway through the season, but the report suggests that Liverpool will consider a bumper spend in January if winning the title looks like a genuine possibility.

The same report adds that Liverpool could let Wataru Endo leave the club in 2025 as he does not suit Arne Slot’s style of play, and Atalanta’s Ederson is named as a player who could replace him.

Meanwhile, it is claimed by Spanish outlet Fichajes that Liverpool could be willing to offer $88m to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid.

Liverpool has been linked with Tchouameni previously, but given he is a regular for Real Madrid, those links have always seemed fanciful. And given this report comes from Fichajes, it’s worth taking it with a pinch of salt.

For what it’s worth, the report says Madrid does not feel as though Tchouameni has reached his full potential since moving to the Bernabeu in 2022, and that the European champion could sanction his departure next summer if the right offer arrives.
