In this story:

A new face landed on the New York Jets’ injury report on Wednesday — quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The veteran quarterback was a limited participant in Wednesday’s workout and as a result was listed on the report. The Jets (2-2) don’t have to provide injury designations until Friday.

Rodgers’ listing on the report comes after his appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday when he admitted that he was pretty “banged up” after Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos. At times in that game he was seen favoring one leg after he was tackled or hit by the defense.

“I’m feeling a little banged up, took some shots, knees a little swollen, but you know, just kind of wear and tear in week four,” he said.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters before Wednesday’s workout that he was “not concerned” about Rodgers’ availability on Sunday in London when they play the Minnesota Vikings.

Right now, his inclusion is largely procedural, per media reports. Rodgers didn’t participate in the pre-practice stretching session observed by the media. He was receiving extra treatment for his knee. Because of that, New York could not list Rodgers as a full participant in practice.

ESPN reported that Rodgers was expected to participate in 11-on-11 drills.

Still, the 40-year-old’s condition will be monitored all week as the Jets prepare to head to London on Thursday night.

Two veteran offensive linemen did not practice on Wednesday, but only one is unlikely to play.

Right tackle Morgan Moses is still working back from his knee injury, which he suffered two weeks ago. He did not practice at all last week and was inactive for the game. Saleh said last week the expectation was that he would miss two games. Sunday’s contest would be that second game.

Left tackle Tyron Smith got his usual veteran’s day of rest on Wednesday. He has received at least one day off per week since the season began.

Linebacker C.J. Mosley, who has dealt with a toe injury since Week 2, was a limited participant. He has not played in the last two games. The Jets also opened the practice window for defensive lineman Leki Fotu, who started season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He was a full participant on Wednesday.

Just one Minnesota (4-0) player did not work out on Wednesday. Cornerback Akayleb Evans (illness) did not work out.

Tight end Josh Oliver (wrist), linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. (ankle) and wide receiver Brandon Powell (chest) were limited participants, while quarterback Sam Darnold (knee) was a full participant.

Darnold was the Jets’ first-round pick in 2018.

The New York Jets are smarting from their loss to the Denver Broncos and it’s been playing out in real time over the past few days.

From the “cadence” conversation to the criticism being levied at coach Robert Saleh, the Jets (2-2) head to London to face the Minnesota Vikings (4-0) and their old starting quarterback, Sam Darnold.

The Jets don’t leave for London until Thursday night and when they do they’ll have the majority of their prep wrapped up for the game.

Can the Jets get back over .500? Or will they fall below that line for the second time this season?

Here are the Jets’ three keys to success in this game.

Get The Run Game Going

Sunday’s loss to Denver was defined, in part, by the lack of a run game. After two weeks of seeing Breece Hall and Braelon Allen play off one another, the pair were unable to get on track. Allen rushed for 34 yards on eight carries while Hall had just four yards on 10 carries.

The team’s 40-year-old quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, was the Jets’ second-leading rusher in the game. Not ideal.

Some of it was play-calling on the Jets’ part. Some of it was poor execution when it comes to pre-snap penalties. Some of it was the Broncos’ defense.

Whatever the factors were, the Jets have to find a way to get both running backs on track this week as a way of taking some pressure off Rodgers and the pass game.

Eliminate the Penalties

New York committed 13 penalties against Denver and the Jets’ offense was responsible for eight of them. From pre-snap penalties to holds, the New York offense was, in many ways, its own worst enemy.

The post-game led to a conversation about the offense’s cadence, with even coach Robert Saleh saying the pre-snap cadences used by Rodgers might change. They won’t, by the way, in part because Rodgers has been using those cadences his entire career. He’d rather hold the players accountable for the mistakes. He also pointed out the Jets’ offense only had one pre-snap penalty in their first three games.

Aberration or trend? We’ll find out more on Sunday in London.

Stymie Sam

This is not the Sam Darnold the Jets took as their first-round pick in 2018. He’s so much better — or at least he’s off to the best start of his career.

He’s a big reason why the Vikings are undefeated. He’s thrown for 932 yards and 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also completed 68.9 percent of his passes. With coach Kevin O’Connell calling the shots, Darnold’s play has responded.

But, the Jets know him well enough to take shots at him all afternoon. New York has a pass rush that can impart pressure and pain on the veteran quarterback all day. For the Jets to win, they have to make Darnold’s life miserable.

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Says He Is ‘Banged Up’ on Pat McAfee Show

The New York Jets star quarterback is already starting to feel the wear and tear of the season after the offense’s worst game yet.

The New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers shared a worrying update while making his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday.

No one ever knows what’s going to come out of his appearances on the show, but this time it was an update that all Jets fans feared would eventually come.

When asked about the camera shots of him looking “miserable” on the sideline by host Pat McAfee, Rodgers gave an injury update.

“I’m feeling a little banged up, took some shots, knees a little swollen, but you know, just kind of wear and tear in week four,” said the future Hall of Fame player.

While it’s not a worst-case scenario update with no missing time looming yet, but having a 40-year-old quarterback looking so uncomfortable just four games into the season is not exactly settling.

The pocket has not been as clean as the team had hoped it would be with their reimagined offensive line. Their pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus is in the bottom half of the NFL at just 61.6.

Rodgers has been pressured 41 times already this season and sacked seven.

Veteran splash signing Tyron Smith has been a huge disappointment on the left side to start the year as he’s allowed 12 pressures and a team-leading three sacks.

Rodgers is on pace to be sacked more than he has been since 2018 and the third-most in his career. Coming off of an injury, that’s not what anyone wants to see.

This season getting derailed by yet another Rodgers injury would be the worst-case scenario after finally showing some signs of life over the first couple of weeks.

The veteran had a good start to the year before the offense was completely stifled by the Denver Broncos’ defense in Week 4.

He hasn’t handled pressure well over the last few seasons of his career, which is understandable as he continues to get age, but with limited mobility coming off his Achilles tear in 2023, it will only become harder for him to adjust to pressure.

If the Week 4 game is a sign of things to come, just 225 yards through the air on 42 attempts without a score, it might be time to worry about New York’s status as contenders.

This will be a situation to monitor in the coming weeks since it’ll be hard for Rodgers to rest with a trip to London taking place.
