It took just 25 games for Adrian Del Castillo to earn a spot on MLB Pipeline’s Second Team All-Rookie Team.

Despite limited action, Del Castillo made a lasting impression. As Jonathan Mayo highlighted,

“It was only an 80 at-bat audition, but it certainly was a strong first impression as Del Castillo hit .313/.368/.893 with four homers and five doubles in 25 games.”

Drafted in the second round of the 2021 draft, the 25-year-old catcher began the season in Double-A but quickly proved his bat was too potent for the minors.

His first week in the majors was nothing short of memorable.

In just his second career game, Del Castillo launched a walk-off home run against the Phillies.

Over his first three games, he recorded two three-hit performances and drove in five runs

The first-team All-Rookie catcher honors went to the Yankees’ Austin Wells, a former first-round pick in 2020.

While Wells’ numbers at the plate didn’t match Del Castillo’s, his 115-game season and ability to throw out 22 runners helped him earn the nod.

On the defensive side, Del Castillo struggled, throwing out only two runners while allowing 27 stolen bases.

With Gold Glove catcher Gabriel Moreno entrenched as the Diamondbacks’ starter, Del Castillo found limited playing time when Moreno was healthy.
