Michael Gannon claims that Rangers fans are waiting for a manager akin to Tottenham boss and ex-Celtic head coach Ange Postecoglou.
The Daily Record journalist has stated that based on conversations with Gers supporters, they’re crying out for a dreamer like the Australian.
Postecoglou won back-to-back league titles at Parkhead and enjoyed a good first season at Tottenham, changing the club’s style of play.
Gannon told Record Sport’s Hotline on 11 November: “I do get the sense from Rangers fans, I speak to them, they’re waiting for a guy like an Ange Postecoglou type figure. A bit different, a bit of a dreamer.”
Rangers need an ambitious up-and-coming manager
While Gers fans will hate what Postecoglou did at Celtic, they have to admit that he transformed their style of play and improved a number of their players.
On the other hand, Clement, Michael Beale or Giovanni van Bronckhorst barely had that sort of impact at Ibrox.
All had positive starts but eventually, their managerial weaknesses were exposed and things turned sour with the fans.
It’s on the board to find that Postecoglou-esque manager who’s currently on the rise and is not already on the radar of Premier League sides.
If they are, it becomes that much more difficult as the SPFL is not seen as a lucrative opportunity for and up-and-coming managers.
Kevin Muscat in Asia may be tempted to make a mark in Europe and tempting him to take over the reins is certainly in the realm of possibility.
