Doctor issues latest on Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey post metatarsal injury

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist.

Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa…

Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jacob Ramsey may still not be at a hundred per cent despite his first-team return, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The 22-year-old broke a metatarsal on international duty back over the summer and returned to action in September,

only to suffer a reoccurrence of the injury and that kept him out for ten weeks.

The injury expert has expressed pride at the Englishman speaking about his struggles

during his setback and believes that the physical and mental toll might still exist.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

“Proud of him for speaking so openly and being so vulnerable about how hard it can be when off the pitch and injured.

“This is another thing fans don’t realise because it’s never broadcasted.

“In terms of him being at 100%, hard for me to say because he was out four months so that

can take a while mentally and physically to get back to form but different players recover at different rates so he may or may not be at that level yet.“

Ramsey has played 90 minutes in each of his last two games against Brentford and Sheffield United.

Unai Emery regularly used him last season and there were multiple roles in which he could’ve played on his return to the first team.

It remains to be seen when Boubacar Kamara returns, whether John McGinn will play in one

of three attacking positions behind Ollie Watkins or if the 22-year-old will retain his place in the eleven.
