Aston Villa eye Premier League striker transfer as ‘excellent’ Wolves man is hailed

Aston Villa and Wolves have both been in action this weekend

Aston Villa drew 2-2 at home to Crystal Palace. Ollie Watkins and Ross Barkley got their goals against the Eagles.

Wolves won 4-1 away at Fulham at Craven Cottage. Here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours regarding the pair…

Aston Villa eye striker

Aston Villa are interested in Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, according to a report by CaughtOffside. The 23-year-old, who is a Holland international, has struggled for form so far this season.

He was snapped up by the Red Devils this past summer to bolster their striking options under former boss Erik ten Hag. However, he has found the net only once in 16 games in all competitions and his future at Old Trafford is up in the air already.

After joining United from Bologna, the attacker said: “Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United.

“I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.”

Their sporting director Dan Ashworth said: “Securing a forward to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key aim for thissummer. We are delighted that we’ve managed to sign a player of Joshua’s calibre this early in the transfer window.

“Joshua is an outstanding talent who is ready to make an impact for Manchester United. His ability and desire to grow into a world-class player means that he will be a great addition to the squad that we are building for the exciting season ahead and beyond.

“Having already achieved a significant amount in his career, we will provide Joshua with the perfect platform to reach the next level under the guidance and support of Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff. We look forward to seeing Joshua thrive at Old Trafford over the coming years.”

Wolves ace hailed

Match of the Day pundit Ashley Williams hailed Wolves star Matheus Cunha after their win at Fulham. The forward caught the eye again for Gary O’Neil’s side.

Ex-Swansea City defender Williams said: “This man is so important for Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side. He had an excellent game again today. He’s really enjoying his football. He’s such a strong runner, what a touch that is, a couple of touches actually. Great pass (from Lemina), that’s a sublime pass. This is Dennis Bergkamp-esque.

“Two touches and a finish, that’s what you want to see when you’re watching a game of football. He’s brilliant, in a team that’s not one of the top four or six, he has got good numbers this season and I think he’s been really important.”
