Aston Villa finished the past campaign in 4th position in the Premier League table. They have Champions League football to look forward to next term.
As for Wolves, they ended in 14th place under Gary O’Neil. Here is a look at some of the latest transfer news and rumours regarding the pair…
Aston Villa target latest
Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on the signing of midfielder Ross Barkley on a free transfer following Luton Town’s relegation to the Championship. In this latest update by Football Insider, the Midlands outfit have struck a ‘full agreement’ to land him and he will ‘complete’ a switch in the coming days, despite interest from top flight rivals Newcastle United.
Barkley, 30, joined the Hatters last summer following their promotion from the second tier and has been a key player at Kenilworth Road since then under the guidance of Rob Edwards. The Liverpudlian rose up through the academy ranks at Everton and has also played for Chelsea and OGC Nice in the past.
Former Wolves ace out of favour
Wolves sold Matheus Nunes to Manchester City last August but he has since struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium. He has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the champions this term, 17 of which have come in the league, but he hasn’t been able to find the net.
The Portugal international, who has 12 caps under his belt so far in his career, may well be on the move again in the upcoming transfer window just a year into the bumper five-year contract he penned at City. As per a report by HITC Sport, his current club will ‘listen’ to offers for him amid interest from unnamed teams in Saudi Arabia and he has been made ‘available’ for transfer.
