Aston Villa and Wolves are both looking to raise funds this summer

Aston Villa are willing to sell experienced defender Diego Carlos in a bid to alleviate the threat posed by the league’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules, according to fresh reports.

Football Insider suggests Unai Emery’s side will be forced to sell at least one experienced player by 30 June and one of the most likely to leave is understood to be Carlos. The 31-year-old defender arrived at Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £26m, with then-manager Steven Gerrard beating rivals West Ham and Newcastle to the Brazilian’s signature.

Carlos arrived with a great deal of hype; he had won gold for Brazil during the Olympics in 2020, and had been a standout performer at the Sevilla team that had lifted the Europa League that same year.

But so far his time in the West Midlands has been a mixed bag. He was limited to just three appearances in his first season due to injury, but bounced back in his second campaign to become a regular first team fixture as Villa qualified for the Champions League.

The defender is under contract until the summer of 2026, but due to his high wages could be sold to another top European club. Back in May, Team Talk had claimed that AC Milan were one of the club’s keeping tabs on the defender with Stefano Piloi reportedly being a fan, but it remains to be seen if the Italian giants are still interested following the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as the new head coach at the San Siro.

After registering five goals in 27 appearances for Portuguese outfit F.C. Famalicão, winger Chiquinho is back at Molineux Stadium. The youngster, who was signed from Estoril in January 2022, has only managed eight league appearances for Wolves since his £4.2m arrival, and he has spent the last two seasons of his career out on loan, with Stoke City also signing him in 2023.

The 24-year-old is yet to find his feet in the West Midlands and is thought to be one of the players at risk of being sold this summer to raise funds for a striker.

However, Give Me Sport reports claim that the youngster will be given time to prove his worth at Molineux and claim that the Old Gold will only reach a verdict on his future after seeing him train with the first team during pre-season.
