Bryan King has backed Aston Villa to sign Kofi Shaw before loaning him back to Bristol Rovers.
The ex-Villa scout doesn’t think the 17-year-old is yet ready to feature in the Villa first team.
It comes after Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon (29 September), that Villa have sent scouts to watch the “dazzling” Shaw in action after he made his first senior start this season.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels more experience in EFL League One would be of benefit to the youngster.
“I’d imagine if Villa were interested in him, they’ll probably buy him and let him stay with Bristol Rovers for the year,” King said.
“If he is that good, and they think he can play for the club then fine. However, I can’t imagine a player of that age will be brought and thrown straight into the first team.
“I would think that if he is brought by Aston Villa, he will be loaned back to Bristol Rovers. It isn’t bad for him to get some more League One experience.”
Aston Villa to sign Kofi Shaw from Bristol Rovers?
Unai Emery has transformed Villa since his arrival. That was evidenced after they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday (2 October), with Chris Sutton blown away by one player’s performance.
Therefore, it seems as if the Spaniard will be welcome to remain with the club as long as he pleases. As a result, he might already be thinking about the long-term future.
If he is, then that could explain the interest in Shaw. The forward has played twice in League One this season for Bristol Rovers.
However, he will still need some time to develop. Therefore, while signing him in January could be a smart long-term move, the club would also perhaps be wise to loan him straight back to Bristol Rovers for the rest of the season, as King has suggested.
