Aston Villa to look for multi-million Philippe Coutinho sale in January

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa would look to receive a multi-million fee to sell Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window, according to Ty Bracey.

Spanish news outlet SPORT reported on 13 December that Vasco da Gama are eyeing a move for the Brazilian attacking midfielder, who came through the ranks at the Rio de Janeiro-based club.

But it questioned whether the move would be a possibility for the Brazilian outfit as it’s unclear whether the 31-year-old would

want to return to his home country, while they are also aware a transfer would “not be easy” to agree on with Villa as they would be looking to receive money for him.

Bracey believes the most important aspect for the Villans would be to get Coutinho, who is currently on loan at Qatari side Al-Duhail, off the books to free up wages.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He didn’t really cost us much transfer-wise. I can’t imagine the fee would be high.

“Villa will just be keen to get those wages off the books. I don’t know how much Villa would look to sell him for, £5million to £10million maybe.

“I don’t think we’d get much more than that, maybe £15million at an absolute push.

“He’s getting on, his legs are tired. But it’s those wages you need off the books.”
