BBC pundit backs Clement to sanction summer transfer for ‘Talented’ Rangers star to exit Ibrox Ibrox

Rangers manager Philippe Clement could “manoeuvre” Todd Cantwell out of Ibrox this summer either permanently or on loan, according to Peter Grant.

The Englishman has had a mixed season at Ibrox as he once again impressed in flashes but failed to deliver consistently in the biggest games much to the frustration of fans and pundits alike.

Tensions between the midfielder and Clement boiled over following the full-time whistle in the Scottish Cup final and BBC pundit Grant has admitted that he believed the Gers boss has become frustrated with his antics.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (5 June, 28:30) he said: “There’s no doubt he’s got a talent, all the other things that I said he should stay away from he didn’t.

“I said before he signed, Glasgow is completely different and that’s my only concern and worry for him and it’s proved to be the way that it is. That’s why you’ve got to say to him, stay away from that son and you’ll do alright.

“Let your football do the talking, he’s a talented boy when he’s at his best and in some performances you can see that he can be that match-winner, but it’s not been enough.

“I can see the frustration in Clement that if he got a decent enough offer or he could manoeuvre him out with a good loan by getting his wages looked after, I think he would do it.”

Will Philippe Clement and Rangers sell Todd Cantwell during the summer transfer window?

Clement has insisted that he wants to put his stamp on this Rangers squad this summer with a big rebuild and while Cantwell hasn’t been one of the names linked with an exit, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him manoeuvred out of Ibrox

When the Englishman is at his best, he can decide a game single-handily with a moment of quality on the ball or an inspired finish. However, more often than not he ghosts through the biggest matches without making an impact.

Philippe Clement could let Todd Cantwell leave Rangers this summer

To fund his summer rebuild, Clement is going to have to get rid of some of the sellable assets in the Light Blues squad and those are few and far between. Cantwell is one of the few players who could be worth some genuine money this summer.

Whether anyone is willing to match Rangers’ valuation remains to be seen, but as Grant suggests a loan or permanent exit cannot be completely off of the cards. This could be one to watch between now and the end of the window.
