Brazilian club plotting Aston Villa transfer and Barcelona will be watching

Aston Villa playmaker Philippe Coutinho is wanted by his former club Vasco da Gama, it has been claimed.

The 31-year-old is currently on loan to Al-Duhail in Qatar, where he has scored once in four appearances with no assists. His future at Villa looks uncertain, but his old team might be coming to his rescue.

That’s according to Sport, who say Vasco da Gama are “thinking” of signing Coutinho, though recognise it “will not be easy” to strike a deal with Villa.

The process is at an “embryonic stage” so there may be little-to-no developments before the January transfer window.

In 43 appearances for Villa, Coutinho scored six goals. Five of those came during his initial loan spell at the back end of the 2021-22 season.

He started his career with Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, from whom he joined Inter Milan in 2008 and made his name in European football.

It would be a full-circle career for Coutinho if he were to return there in the coming transfer windows.
