Cagliari interest in Slovakia coach Calzona for after EURO 2024

Francesco Calzona could well remain in Serie A following his Napoli experience, as Cagliari have asked after the coach of the Slovakia national team.
The tactician had a rather strange situation at Napoli, taking over from sacked Walter Mazzarri as their third boss of the campaign in mid-February, only ever planning to remain until the end of the season.
He had these duties on top of preparing Slovakia for the EURO 2024 tournament and has now gone back to his ‘day’ job.
According to Sky Sport Italia, despite the difficult situation where he oversaw three wins, nine draws and four defeats, Calzona still did enough to impress in Serie A.
Calzona contacted by Cagliari
Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini has approached him to ask if he wants a more permanent role at club level.
The report from transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that Calzona is interested, but first wants to see how Slovakia do at the European Championship.
He is under contract there until December 31, 2025, but could manage to extricate himself from the commitment.
This too would be a return for Calzona, because he was already at Cagliari in 2020-21 as assistant manager to Eusebio Di Francesco.
Cagliari are currently without a coach after Claudio Ranieri announced his retirement.
