Cagliari Keen To Keep Inter Milan Owned Attacking Midfielder Next Season
Cagliari are keen to keep Inter Milan-owned attacking midfielder Gaetano Oristanio in their squad next season.
Today’s print edition of Cagliari-based newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, via FCInterNews, report that the two clubs will soon meet to discuss the possibility of Oristanio staying.
Oristanio spent the season just gone playing for Cagliari on loan.
The Italy youth team international joined the Rossoblu on a season-long loan deal last summer.
That loan also reportedly contains a purchase option. Cagliari can sign Oristanio on a permanent basis for a fee of around €4 million.
Cagliari Keen To Keep Inter Owned Gaetano Oristanio Next Season
Over the season just gone, Oristanio was a regular appearance-maker for Cagliari.
The 21-year-old had spent the previous two seasons with Volendam in the Netherlands. He had helped the club to promotion from the Eerste Divisie in his first season, and then played in the Eredivise in his second.
This campaign was the first for Oristanio in Serie A.
And the Inter-owned attacking midfielder did look up to the level of the Italian top flight.
Now-departed Cagliari coach Claudio Ranieri deployed Oristanio in a number of roles.
The 21-year-old’s versatility meant that he was able to play as an attacking midfielder, a second striker, or even as a wide midfielder.
Oristanio scored two goals, and assisted a further one goal over the course of the Serie A season. He helped Cagliari to remain safe in the top flight in their first season back.
And now, La Nuova Sardegna report, Cagliari want to keep hold of Oristanio.
Presumably this means that Cagliari are hoping not to pay the full release clause. They could instead be aiming for another loan, or another fee.
