Carl Froch Names the ‘Nobody Can Beat’ Fighter

Published

Carl Froch thinks that there is one fighter in the world who no one can beat – and he has firsthand experience trying.

Froch, a former world champion, is one of the most decorated British boxers of his generation. He held several super-middleweight world titles, including the WBC title twice between 2008 and 2011, the IBF title from 2012 to 2015, and the WBA title from 2013 to 2015.

He was admitted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2023 as a result of memorable fights with Mikkel Kessler, Lucien Bute, and two renowned clashes with George Groves, whom he claims gave him the ‘beating’ of his life.

Amongst all of that, he competed in the Super Six World Boxing Classic, where he defeated Andre Direll, Arthur Abraham, and Glen Johnson before losing to multi-weight great Andre Ward.

Froch reflected on the fight, which he lost by unanimous decision, in an interview with Manish Bhasin of In The Zone.

Andre Ward is a wonderful talent who doesn’t know how to lose and only knows how to win. Up close, the high school wrestling champion is a force to be reckoned with. Olympic gold medalist in fast hands, fans hands.”

I couldn’t really hit him since he was too swift and holding. I felt like I’d been robbed. Normally, my hands and ribs are swelled, but I came out of the ring and believed I could go again. I was furious because I had lost my title.”

He acknowledges that he was unhappy because some people thought he was done after losing to Ward in his next fight.

I was thinking don’t dismiss The Cobra just because he lost to Andre Ward. Nobody can compete with [Ward.]”
