Championship debrief as Leeds United’s rivals consider double transfer swoop

The latest news across the Championship as Leeds United prepare to return to action

One of Leeds United’s Championship rivals are running the rule over two trialists. Free agents Cyrus Christie and Adam Reach are spending a second week training with Swansea City as the Swans continue their preparations for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers.

Adam Reach is currently training with Swansea City

It remains to be seen whether Swansea, who will lock horns with the Whites next month, will offer either Christie or Reach a contract. Both Christie and Reach have been without clubs since departing Hull City and West Bromwich Albion respectively at the end of June.

Republic of Ireland international Christie and utility midfielder Reach linked up with the Swans at the start of the international break. Ex-Swansea loanee Christie, aged 32, is capable of playing in both full-back positions while Reach, 31, has played out wide and in central midfield during his career. Reach has previously represented Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

Clubs are still able to sign free agents outside of the transfer window.

Goalkeeper signs new four-year deal

Sol Brynn has committed his future to Middlesbrough, penning a new four-year contract at the Riverside. The shot-stopper has been on Boro’s books since the age of nine.

Brynn finally made his long-awaited senior debut against United in the Carabao Cup earlier this season following successful loan spells at Queen of the South, Swindon and Leyton Orient. He recorded 13 clean sheets in 45 matches for the O’s last season.

Brynn, a product of Boro’s academy, is currently second choice under Michael Carrick behind number 1 Seny Dieng, who has started all of Middlesbrough’s nine Championship fixtures. After extending his Boro stay, Brynn wrote on social media: “Absolutely delighted to have signed a new long term contract with Middlesbrough.”

Emiliano Marcondes will be hoping to make his first Norwich City start this weekend when the Canaries travel to Stoke City. The attacking midfielder joined the Canaries on a free transfer earlier this month after leaving Bournemouth in the summer.

He made his City debut as a substitute in a 4-0 Championship win over Hull prior to the international break. Victory lifted the Canaries up to seventh, one point outside of the play-off places.

Marcondes, a member of promotion-winning squads at both Brentford and Bournemouth, said: “I want to fit in [at Norwich] as soon as possible as my contract is only until the summer so I want to get into things quickly. To get into a new team and a new place to live is not easy but my goal is to get connected.”
