Chicago Sky Sign WNBA All-Star Kia Nurse

CHICAGO (February 4, 2025) — The Chicago Sky have officially signed WNBA guard Kia Nurse during free agency. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Having another veteran leader to add to our roster is invaluable,” Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca said. “Her consistency from beyond the arc and added versatility at the guard position will complement our team very well. Kia has a toughness, grit and competitive nature that we are looking for here.”

Nurse, a six-year WNBA veteran, recently averaged 7.6 points in 40 games in 2024 with Los Angeles. She scored 20+ points in two games this year, including a season-high 23 points. Prior to her time with the Sparks, Nurse made stints with Seattle (2023) and Phoenix (2021).

She spent the first three years of her career with New York, where she became an All-Star in 2019 in just her second year in the league. In 2019, Nurse averaged 13.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

She was drafted 10th overall by the Liberty in the 2018 WNBA Draft. During her rookie season, she set her career high, recording 34 points on June 6, 2018 to go along with nine rebounds and four assists.

Nurse recently suited up for the Canadian National Team in the 2024 Paris Olympics. She averaged 7.7 points in three games with Team Canada.

She played four collegiate seasons with UConn, helping the program win back-to-back titles in 2014-15 and 2015-16, alongside Sky guard Moriah Jefferson. Nurse is a four-time All-AAC team member, the AAC Rookie of the Year and the 2017-18 AAC Defensive Player of the Year as a Husky.

She is currently playing domestically in Athletes Unlimited in Nashville, Tenn. The season runs from February 5-March 2.

“I am so excited to be joining this Chicago Sky squad!” Nurse said. “I know from playing as an opponent in Wintrust Arena that the Sky fan base is truly special, and they know how to show up and show out! I’m excited to be joining a team with such a great mixture of super talented young players and vets. Can’t wait to get to the city and get this season going!”

The 6-0 guard joins a Sky team that includes two 2024 WNBA All-Rookie Team members Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, recently signed 2x WNBA Champion veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot and veteran center/forward Elizabeth Williams. The Sky also recently acquired forward Rebecca Allen in a trade with Connecticut.
