Chris Rigg has boosted Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid’s hopes as he wants to join a club “bigger than” Wolverhampton Wanderers when he leaves Sunderland.
According to a report by Football Insider, Chris Rigg is the subject of interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are also keen on signing the 17-year-old Sunderland prodigy. The English whizkid has boosted the prospects of the three European bigwigs, as he wants to join a club “bigger than” the Black Country outfit when he leaves the Black Cats.
The rise of a prodigious teenager
Chris Rigg has been one of the best young prospects in his homeland since graduating from the youth division at Sunderland AFC. The 17-year-old is already a regular for the EFL Championship outfit, and he has amassed over 1,000 minutes of game time across 15 appearances in all competitions this season while chipping in with three goals.
Meanwhile, Rigg’s potential has set alarm bells ringing, with Wolverhampton Wanderers among his prospective suitors. The Black Country outfit will look to sign the teenage sensation next year, and the Sunderland wonderkid can immediately become a regular for them. However, the player wants to join a “bigger” club, with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid also vying for his signature.
High in demand
It is hardly surprising that the English whizkid features on Chelsea’s wishlist. The Blues have heavily invested in highly-rated prodigies since Clearlake Capital took over from Roman Abramovich. So, it makes sense that the Sunderland midfielder is a target for Chelsea.
As for Real Madrid, Toni Kroos’s absence has caused problems this season, while Luka Modric will soon hang up his boots. So, Rigg has emerged as a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions, and they consider him as an alternative to Florian Wirtz.
Chris Rigg’s decision not to join Wolverhampton Wanderers likely points to Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United being front-runners to secure his services. So, it will be interesting to see where the 17-year-old English whizkid lands when he leaves Sunderland.
