Chris Sutton and John Hartson react to news of Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic

What a January transfer window this could prove to be for Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic, it’s just a case of when the Arsenal star will don the green and white colours again.

As of this moment, the 27-year-old is preparing for Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Girona on Wednesday night.

But Tierney is out-of-contract with the London club in the summer, so he has a pre-contract agreement in place with his boyhood club.

The Scotland star left Celtic in 2019 to pursue a career in the Premier League when, then-Unai Emery’s Arsenal, paid £25 million for his talents.

He established himself as an important player, although, in recent years, injuries and a lack of game time under Mikel Arteta have led him towards the exit door.

And it’s Celtic who are going to benefit from it.

Chris Sutton and John Hartson delighted as Kieran Tierney is set for Celtic return

This has been mooted for some while, so when Rodgers dropped the news in his pre-match press conference ahead of Celtic’s trip to Aston Villa, then it wasn’t a surprise.

John Hartson put it perfectly on Twitter when he stated that Tierney is coming ‘home’, whilst Chris Sutton was equally delighted.

The Premier League title winner added that he would like Celtic to bring in a ‘top class centre forward’ to replace the departed Kyogo.

“Great news to hear Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic,” wrote Sutton. “Jota may need a bit of time and patience on his return, but at 25, should have his best years ahead of him.

“Just a top-class centre forward required to replace Kyogo…”

Tierney’s record as a Celtic player

Tierney won trophies for fun at Celtic and if he returns before Monday’s deadline, then he will, at the very least, have another medal for his collection.

The Bhoys have a healthy lead at the top of the table and it will take an almighty collapse for anything other than Callum McGregor to lift the main crown again.

But either way, it’s time for Tierney to add to his five Premiership titles and continue Celtic’s dominance in Scotland.
