Martí Cifuentes urged his side to make amends from their FA Cup exit to Leicester City when they travel to Home Park to take on Plymouth Argyle this weekend.
Rangers face Plymouth a week after seeing their ambitions of a cup run extinguished against the Foxes, with the Premier League side running out 6-2 winners to progress to the fourth round.
Though defeat to Leicester undoubtedly stung, Cifuentes’ men can take comfort from their league form, having only lost once in their last 11 Sky Bet Championship fixtures and the Spaniard is hopeful his side will continue their upward trend in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off.
“Everyone is very eager to continue that positive trend, but we know it won’t be easy,” Cifuentes told club media.
“We face a tough side with a new manager who have been getting a lot of results at home compared to away, but we are eager to impress and bounce back from a disappointing weekend in the cup.
“The conditions obviously didn’t help. Throughout the first half I was really enjoying how we were playing – but we need to understand what went wrong in the game.
“I have never conceded six goals as a manager so we have to look at what went wrong, but Leicester are a good side who dominated the Championship last year and we competed for large periods, which is a positive.
“When there is a change of manager [like at Plymouth] there is always an expectation, with a win against a Premier League side and getting a point against a tough Oxford team. We know that we need to prepare and we will need to be at our best to get something from the game.”
Rangers head to the south coast with no new arrivals in the treatment room, with Lucas Andersen, Žan Celar, Steve Cook, Kader Dembele and Liam Morrison still unavailable.
Cifuentes added: “There is nothing new. Those five players who have been away are the same, but otherwise no there’s new news.
“Liam is starting to work on the pitch, the medical team are happy with his development. When he is back is more about days rather than weeks.”
