Clement will be out the door if he doesn’t solve head-scratching Rangers dilemma

Rangers have made it a common theme this season to bottle it when away from home in the Scottish Premiership.

They managed to avoid a familiar fate in their clash against Dundee United, recovering to win 3-1 at Tannadice after Jim Goodwin’s men took the lead.

While they may have left with all three points to their name, the fact the Tangarines were matching their level of performance should be a cause for concern.

Since the winter transfer window opened, fans have called for Philippe Clement to add some new faces to his ranks to improve their chances of winning across all competitions.

However, it still feels like something is stopping them from reaching their maximum ability when away from home.

And, while peaking live on BBC Radio Scotland (26 January), Alasdair Lamont questioned why there’s an element of “nervousness” from the Gers when away from home – at least domestically – which Willie Miller then shared his thoughts on.

“You don’t see any sign of this nervousness from Rangers when they’re away or playing in Europe generally, it just seems to be domestically,” Lamont said.

To which Miller replied: “I don’t know the answer to that, I’m sure Philippe Clement must be scratching his head but it’s his responsibility, it’s his job to find the answer to it.

“European results and European results away from home are all fine and well but I think you know domestically, it’s Celtic that they’ve got to try and catch and their away form has left them so far behind that it’s almost impossible to even make it up [the gap to first-place].”

Rangers and Philippe Clement need to figure out where their problems lie

While injuries have no doubt played a massive part in the way that the Gers’ season has gone so far, it still feels like a lot more could come from the Ibrox outfit.

At the moment, it feels like their defensive line is where their main problems lie with the likes of John Souttar and Ridvan Yilmaz just two of their defenders who are absent due to injury.

However, their attacking line has also been a problem at times despite the number of goals that both Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane have bagged themselves this term.

If Clement wants his squad to challenge for the title and also put in a valiant effort across the board, it feels like a lot more needs to come from his team.

Numerous names have been linked with a move to Glasgow but unless some deadwood is moved on, it feels highly unlikely that anyone new is going to join.

And frankly unless Clement can solve this away-day dilemma he may be out the door before he can continue to improve this squad anyway.
