Coventry City and Hull City are leading the hunt to sign Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass on a free transfer this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Windass is out of contract with the Owls at the end of this month and no deal has been agreed for him to remain at Hillsborough next season.

Hull and Coventry are both keen to boost their attacking options this summer and are planning to make the 30-year-old an offer over the coming weeks.

The attacker scored six goals and laid on two assists in 25 appearances to help Wednesday retain their Championship status for another year.

Josh Windass could make summer switch to Coventry City

Windass has been a standout performer for the Owls since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2020.

During that time, the forward – who can play in a variety of different attacking positions – has scored 40 goals and laid on 17 assists in 135 appearances.

The Hull-born man has played 129 games in the second tier across his career, while he also spent two years with Scottish giants Rangers.

That experience has led to Coventry and Hull registering their interest in signing Windass once his contract with the Owls expires later this month.

He is expected to leave the Sheffield club in the coming weeks barring any unexpected changes taking place regarding his future.

Wednesday finished the campaign three points above the Championship relegation zone after securing their safety on the final day of the season.

Coventry and Hull, however, both missed out in their bids to finish in the play-off positions.
