Police have raided a Coventry shop which was reported to be selling stolen goods worth around £5,000. Officers found hundreds of stolen items when they visited the unnamed store on Stoney Stanton Road.

Officers from the Foleshill SNT, working with Trading Standards, paid a visit to the city-based shop on Monday (May 13). It followed suggestions that stolen items were being stored and sold.

Cops uncovered a large amount of stolen coffee, deodorant, medicine, chocolate and washing powder, with the total amount thought to be worth in the region of £5,000. Cadbury, Fairy, Colgate and Mars were just some of the big-name brands found at the shop on Stoney Stanton Road.

All of the items are thought to have been stolen from a number of shops in the city before being sold to the shop at a later date, West Midlands Police said. A 50-year-old man will be now voluntarily interviewed, while inquiries continue.A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We fully understand the impact and frustration of shoplifting on businesses of all sizes. As part of our more local policing model, our teams across investigations, neighbourhood and response are now working closer together to prevent and tackle crimes which impact our communities.

Using local officer knowledge and working with store security, we are able to identify suspects, and any emerging trends or hotspots quicker. We routinely carry out regular high visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activity, to trace and catch offenders.”
