Talisman striker James Collins has signed a new one-year contract to be a part of Derby County’s return to the Championship – but midfielder Louie Sibley has left the club.

Collins had been in talks about extending his stay at Pride Park after his current deal ended on Sunday, and news that an extension deal with Derby County had been agreed was announced on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old told Rams TV: “I’m really happy. With the way last season went, and then the conversations I had with Paul Warne. I always wanted to stay. This club is really close to my heart now.

“The lads are great here, the training ground and the stadium are fantastic, and I have a good rapport with the fans. I’m really excited to see what next year is going to bring.”

Sibley was also offered a new deal after his contract expired at the end of last month, but a club statement said: “He has decided to continue his playing career elsewhere.”

The 22-year-old made 173 senior appearances for the Rams after coming through the academy ranks, scoring 20 goals. The club statement added: “Derby County would like to place on record its thanks to Louie for his contribution throughout his time at the club and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”

Collins scored 19 goals in the Rams’ promotion campaign last term, and would have bagged more but for a knee injury sustained in February. He battled back to bag the Rams final goal of the campaign.

He added: “From day one I made my view clear that I wanted to stay. The gaffer was happy with that because he wanted me to stay, so it was quite easy to get done. I feel fit and ready to go.”
