In the case of Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, it’s never too late to bring in players from the Georgia Bulldogs. Philadelphia already has four defensive starters on the team formerly of the Bulldogs and just added another one. Career backup and former first-round safety Lewis Cine has signed to the Eagles roster in a move made Wednesday afternoon before practice.
At Georgia, Cine was a first-team All-SEC selection and a third-team All-American in 2021. In his final game for the Bulldogs, he was the Defensive MVP in the National Championship win over Alabama.
He had 145 tackles, 16 passes defensed, and two interceptions during his career in college. Since joining the NFL, though, Cine’s journey has been difficult. He has battled injuries and ineffective play while bouncing around practice squads in 2024. On this Eagles defense, Cine joins fellow Bulldogs such as Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, and Nakobe Dean.
While it is unlikely that Cine will see any meaningful snaps in games during Philadelphia’s playoff run, he could provide depth at the safety position, and be a high-ceiling type of player moving forward. You can never have too many players in the secondary.
And in the case of the Eagles, you can never have too many former Bulldogs on the roster at this point. Roseman, for his part, has at least learned that lesson.
