Eddie Hearn Reacts To The British Board ‘Refusing’ Conor Benn A Fighting License

Conor Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn is not happy with the British Boxing Board of Control.

News emerged this week that the Board had refused Connor Benn’s application to fight Chris Eubank Jr so long as its appeal with Benn and the UK Anti-Doping Agency following failed Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency tests last year remains without a verdict

The decision means Benn’s rescheduled fight with Eubank, which was initially canned back in October 2022 following Benn testing positive, and has since been penciled in for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February 2024, is now up in the air once more.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Hearn claimed it is ‘unquestionable’ that Conor Benn has been treated differently to other fighters.

“What is it about Conor Been that means he’s being treated differently to everyone else?”

He went on to say he was ‘very disappointed’ that the BBBofC’s Robert Smith went on talkSPORT to give his explanation rather than speaking to Benn’s team.

His comments were completely inaccurate and that will be dealt with today by Conor and his legal team. For us, the focus is on making the fight. Until it’s made it’s irrelevant talking about how it might play out. When or if we get it signed we will deal with the situation. We believe he is cleared legally to fight.”

Hearn then ran through what Benn had done in an attempt to clear his name.

“He has been through his hearing with the WBC. He got completely cleared of any wrongdoing and reinstated in the rankings. Then he chose to go through the UKAD ruling and got his suspension lifted and won the case.”

Finally, he stated once again his desire to make the fight, and said it would be in this country.

“I want this fight to happen in the UK, February 3, at Spurs.”

If that is to happen, there still seems to be a lot to be sorted out for Benn and his team.
