Elanga, Awoniyi, Felipe – Nottingham Forest injury state of play ahead of Blackpool FA Cup replay

Nottingham Forest are heading into a blank weekend but will then quickly turn their attention to an FA Cup replay with Blackpool.

The Reds will head to Bloomfield Road next Wednesday to settle the third round tie, after they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Seasiders at the City Ground last Sunday.

Fitting in the additional game meant head coach Nuno Espirito Santo having to rearrange his team’s plans for their winter break.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese will hope having some time off affords his players an opportunity for a bit of rest and recovery. Below is a look at Forest’s injury situation as things stand.

What we know: A knock picked up against former club Manchester United forced the 21-year-old off in the final minutes of that 2-1 win.

He was then not involved against Blackpool and might be a doubt for the replay.

What has been said: “Don’t know,” Nuno said, when asked about the severity of Elanga’s injury by BBC Nottingham after the FA Cup draw.

“For sure not (fit) for the next one. Hopefully he will recover and get back to the team.”

Prior to the match, he had said: “Anthony took a knock in the last game. He is an important absence for us.”

Divock Origi

Injury: Unknown.

What we know:The forward has been absent from the last two match squads.

Nuno said he missed the clash with United due to a “problem” in the build-up to the game.

What has been said: “Let’s see how Divock is, he is still recovering.

Something is not comfortable,” Nuno said in his pre-match press conference last Friday.

“He improves but then today in the training session he worked but in the end he felt something that doesn’t give him comfort.

We are going to do an MRI again to see if there is something.

Hopefully he is going to be available, but that is the doubt we have.”

Injury: Hamstring.

What we know: The centre-back made his comeback from a long-standing knee problem at the start of December. Absent since the summer, he featured against Everton, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He was then forced to withdraw from training the day before Forest’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur due to a hamstring issue.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Injury: Groin.

What we know: The striker is making good progress in his recovery from groin surgery and could be back sooner than expected,

having initially been facing a three-month absence. He last featured for the Reds in the 3-2 defeat at West Ham United on November 12 and has been a big miss.

Awoniyi recently posted a video to his Instagram account which showed him running on the grass at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

Forest hope the decision for the Nigeria international to go under the knife can help resolve a long-standing problem which had ruled him out of action previously before it was aggravated while on duty with his country.
