Emery confirms Aston Villa star John McGinn is out for ‘a few weeks’

Aston Villa star John McGinn is set to miss a few weeks of action after coming off with a knock in the second half of the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers today.

The 29-year-old had a subdued performance at Villa Park, and it could be due to a hamstring issue he picked up that forced him off early for Leon Bailey.

McGinn is an Unai Emery favourite, with the manager claiming he is the “perfect role model”. He will be a massive miss for the club during their next few games.

Asked about McGinn’s injury, Emery said (via Birmingham Mail): “It is his hamstring. When we arrived here, he had a hamstring injury against Tottenham in January, and today, I think it is less than that injury. But he will not be available, I think, for a few weeks.”

McGinn could miss important clashes like the UEFA Champions League visit from German behemoths Bayern Munich on October 2. The in-form Bavarians demolished Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in their opener and followed it with a convincing 5-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga this weekend.

Also, Villa must navigate a tricky visit from Manchester United in the Premier League four days later. Erik ten Hag’s side can be underwhelming and scintillating. Villa must be ready to play out of their skin to get a result against the Red Devils.

Emery will be eager to welcome his captain back into the fold, but he has some exciting options to work with in the form of Leon Bailey and Jaden Philogene.

Other stars like Ollie Watkins, Jhon Duran, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Amadou Onana will also be expected to step up to the plate.

Watkins bagged a fine equaliser against Wolves, and Duran ensured the win with a late goal. Rogers provided two assists and put in a magnificent performance. Tielemans and Onana have also been in terrific form.

We await to see how Emery and Villa navigate this crucial period without the influential McGinn.
