Bryan King claims Emi Buendia “could be on the verge” of a return to the Aston Villa first team.
The ex-Villa scout believes the 27-year-old’s return to action will be “a boost” for Unai Emery and the club.
Buendia made his return after a year out through injury and scored twice as Aston Villa’s Under-21s defeated Fleetwood Town 3-2 in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday (3 September).
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels that Emery and his staff would have been watching the clash closely.
“This is a boost for Emery without a doubt,” King said.
“Buendia suffered a very serious injury, and this is a good way for him to get himself fit. The best type of training is match training.
“I’d imagine that Emery’s staff, and perhaps the manager himself, would have been watching that game closely. They would have seen that Buendia is progressing well.
“As a result, he could be on the verge of being included in a first-team squad. If he can get himself back playing then it will be very good for him, and for the club and Emery.”
Emi Buendia set for first-team return at Aston Villa
Buendia will feel like a brand-new signing at Villa Park. The Argentinian has been out of action for a long time, and welcoming a player of his quality back to the fold will be big for the club.
However, due to the serious nature of his injury, he will no doubt need some time to get back up to speed. As a result, Emery needs to manage his minutes closely.
The club and supporters mustn’t put any pressure on Buendia and should allow the midfielder to rediscover his best form at his own pace as and when he does return.
