Everton transfer news as development emerges in West Ham ace Ben Johnson chase

Everton, Tottenham, Wolves and Aston Villa are now joined by a host of new clubs in the race to sign West Ham defender Ben Johnson, according to HITC.

The news outlet claimed on 30 May that clubs from France, Italy and Germany have already spoken to the representatives of the 24-year-old.

Johnson will be available on a free transfer as his deal at the London Stadium runs out at the end of June.

Ben Johnson would be a shrewd signing for Everton

At 24 years old, he is entering his prime as a professional footballer, bringing a blend of youth and experience to the team.

His versatility is a significant asset, as he can operate on either flank as a full-back or even in a central defensive role, providing Everton with tactical flexibility.

Moreover, Johnson’s availability on a free transfer represents a cost-effective solution for the Toffees, a club that’s been financially constrained in recent years.

This allows the Toffees to allocate resources to other areas of need while still strengthening the squad with a quality player.

Additionally, their current defensive options have shown limitations, with players like Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman ageing and Nathan Patterson struggling to establish himself.

Johnson’s potential arrival could provide healthy competition and an upgrade in the full-back positions.

He can also play as a centre-back, giving Sean Dyche the option of playing a different system in and out of possession.
