Exclusive: Reading Set to Sign Lincoln City Star Defender

The Centre-Back Has Had Lots Of Interest This Summer from League One Clubs

Sources have exclusively informed The DECK that League One Reading are set to win the race to sign Lincoln City defender Paudie O’Connor after fending off interest from fellow League One sides as well as Championship sides Stoke City and Derby County.

After a stellar campaign in League One for Lincoln City, Paudie O’Connor has not been short of interest from other clubs as his contract with the Imps comes to an end this month.

The defender has been linked with a handful of clubs from both League One and the Championship this summer as clubs look to bolster their squads ahead of the new campaign.

Reading, however, are the ones who are set to secure the 27-year-old’s signature, as sources have revealed to The DECK that O’Connor has decided on his new club.

O’Connor to join Reading

The DECK can exclusively reveal that out-of-contract Lincoln City defender Paudie O’Connor is set to join Reading after a long transfer saga in the early stages of the transfer window.

The Royals have fended off interest from League One rivals as well as Championship clubs such as Derby County and Stoke City to ensure that O’Connor makes the move to Berkshire.

Our sources previously confirmed that playing time and ambition would be a key part in the Irishman’s decision, and with Reading finally under new ownership and needing a new center-back with Tyler Bindon departing from his loan spell, it seems to be the perfect move for O’Connor.

A Huge Coup for Reading?

This signing is a huge statement of intent for the Royals, as they have fended off interest from some big clubs in order to get O’Connor to sign.

He will slot into their defense well, with manager Noel Hunt desperate to add experience to what is a very young and competitive Royals team.

With over 140 appearances for Lincoln as well as another 129 for Bradford City, O’Connor is an EFL veteran already despite being just 27 years old, and he will be a huge boost to Reading’s ambitions this season as they look to fight for a playoff place.
