Nottingham Forest are going on the hunt for a new striker and Matheus Cunha looks like being the top target for the remaining days of the January transfer window.
Evangelos Marinakis wants a new forward player and has made no secret of that. He’s desperate to get Forest to compete in European competitions once more and clearly thinks the squad needs enhancement.
Forest were linked with Yoane Wissa earlier this week. That deal might be complex, however, given that the player isn’t pushing to leave Brentford any time soon and the Bees value him extremely high.
Forest are eyeing Wolves star Cunha and that makes more sense. The Brazilian is stalling over putting pen-to-paper on his contract at Molineux and all doesn’t seem well there.

Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Matheus Cunha to Nottingham Forest links
It would appear as though Forest are going to face stiff competition to sign Cunha before the transfer window slams shut, with Arsenal keen to get their title ambitions back on track.
Romano has been speaking to Give Me Sport and he’s now shared an update on the situation with Cunha and it makes for intriguing reading.
He said: “There is still interest from Arsenal, they always had this player on their list. I think there are more clubs from Premier League who can enter the race eventually if Wolves decide to open the doors to his exit, which they haven’t at the moment.
“Wolves insist they want to keep the player, they want to sign his new deal as soon as possible, but in case the door will be open in the next days, I think there could be some interesting movement in the final days of the window for Cunha, because there is interest, for sure.”

Cunha would be excellent Forest signing
It’s been reported that Cunha might cost Forest £80 million. However, there is no way Forest are forking that sort of money out in January and that could see the Reds left hanging this window.
There will of course be other irons in the fire. Cunha won’t be the only player on the Forest shortlist but it does seem like he’s the one that Marinakis will make a firm play for.
Cunha has bagged 10 goals so far this season. He didn’t play as Forest ran riot at Molineux earlier this month but did score in both games against the Reds last season, including a wonder goal at the City Ground.
The 25-year-old fits the profile of a Forest signing down to the ground. He’s at an age where significant resale value would be maintained, whilst he would need no introduction to the Premier League and could potentially make an immediate impact.
