With just a few weeks left before the January transfer window, there’s already a few potential Sheffield Wednesday transfers in the making.

There looks set to be both comings and goings at Hillsborough during the January transfer window coming up, with Danny Rohl eyeing a busy month.

Rohl wants to sign some loan players at Sheffield Wednesday

, as he did last January, which makes sense given the seemingly tough financial picture in S6 right now.

In November, Sheffield Wednesday came out of a registration embargo that they were in for just a couple of weeks.

Despite it being a brief stint under embargo, it doesn’t fill fans with confidence ahead of January, and Rohl’s comments on wanting loan signings may suggest that there’s very little resources for permanent signings.

Nevertheless, here we take a look at five Sheffield Wednesday transfers that could realistically happen in January, including signings and potential exits too…

Pierce Charles to the Premier League, Liverpool among those interested

Ahead of the Preston North End game on Saturday, it’s been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles has Premier League interest.

It’s claimed that at least three Premier League clubs have made checks on Charles this season, in games for both Sheffield Wednesday and Northern Ireland.

The 19-year-old is still waiting to make his Championship debut with James Beadle the clear no.1 right now. If a sizeable offer comes in though, it could be that Sheffield Wednesday take the money and reinvest.

On Friday, Sheffield Wednesday News revealed that Liverpool are one of the teams looking at Charles ahead of January.

Charlie McNeill could be loaned out

Speaking recently, Rohl gave his thoughts on summer signing Charlie McNeill, following what’s been a very poor start to life in S6 for the former Manchester United gem.

He’s yet to make his Championship debut for the Owls despite having scored twice in three games in the Carabao Cup this season.

Rohl says McNeill could leave Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January, and the teenager surely won’t be short if suitors lower down in the Football League.

Sean Fusire also considered for January loan exit

Another youngster could potentially leave on loan in midfielder Sean Fusire, who’s been part of the first-team squad this season.

The 19-year-old is liked by Rohl, with Fusire having impressed the Sheffield Wednesday boss in Carabao Cup games against the likes of Blackpool and Brentford.

Speaking ahead of the Preston game, Rohl suggested that Fusire could also leave Sheffield Wednesday on loan in the January transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday linked with Aston Villa’s Louie Barry

One name with a concrete link to Hillsborough ahead of January is Aston Villa gem Louie Barry, who’s shone on loan at Stockport County this season.

Barry is the top scorer in League One with 13 goals in 18 games this season and it’s said that Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Barry on loan in January.

Sheffield Wednesday News understands that no club is yet to make contact with Aston Villa regarding Barry, who has a horde of Championship clubs on alert right now.

Southampton weigh up possible Shea Charles recall

The Owls face a huge transfer blow in January with Southampton loan man Shea Charles‘ future currently uncertain.

There’s been a lot of talk about the Saints potentially recalling the Northern Ireland skipper in January, after his impressive start to the season.

Southampton boss Russell Martin hasn’t ruled out recalling Charles from Sheffield Wednesday, but insists that he’s happy with how he’s progressing in the Championship.

It remains to be seen whether Charles is still a Wednesday player come February.
