Former Derby County defender Scott Malone has been placed on the transfer list by Gillingham.

The Gills were unable to win promotion and after Stephen Clemence left are now under the gudiance of Mark Bonner, the former Cambridge manager.

And he has wasted no time in sorting his squad for next season with Malone one of four players who have been made available for transfer.

George Lapslie, Ashley Nadesan and Oli Hawkins are also available as the Gills target a promotion push next season.

Malone, who made 55 appearances for the Rams, left Derby for Millwall in May 2021 with the defender having joined the club from Huddersfield Town where he had helped keep the Terriers in the top flight.

He made 48 appearances last season and scored four goals but the Gills finished in a disappointing mid-table position.

With four players being transfer-listed, Gillingham have announced that eight players will be departing after their contract was not renewed.

Among those released is forward Macauley Bonne, who represented Charlton Athletic and Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.
