Former Derby County transfer target just did something against Nottingham Forest that fans will

There have been plenty of “what if?” moments when it comes to Derby County and their business in the transfer windows of the past.

One of those, rather infamously, has been Ollie Watkins, who was linked with a switch to Pride Park from Exeter City many years ago.

The striker instead joined Brentford, where he impressed enough to earn a move to Aston Villa, playing Premier League football as well as featuring in the Champions League and on the world stage for the England national team.

He’s not the only one many Derby fans will feel they missed out on as another star who has made his way to the top tier is Ferdi Kadioglu.

The versatile defender was a star player for Fenerbahce in Turkey before Brighton decided to sign him in the summer.

Kadioglu was previously linked with a move to Derby in 2019 and 2020, but he never ended up making the move.

What Ferdi Kadioglu did in Brighton vs Nottingham Forest

While he never made the move to Pride Park, Kadioglu certainly showed his inner Ram in a clash with Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old was warming up on the sidelines during Brighton’s clash with the east Midlands outfit and tried to keep the game flowing by handing Alex Moreno the ball for a quick throw-in.

The Forest full-back seemingly passed up that opportunity, which created a flashpoint between the pair on the sidelines.

With the match referee having to step in to split the pair from having their disagreement spilling over, it came as an entertaining moment.

While Kadioglu never made his move to Derby, he will still have a few fans at the club after such an appearance on the sidelines.

The only thing that could’ve elevated him would’ve been a winning goal against Nottingham Forest.

Derby County transfer strategy change

In the years since those missed transfers surrounding Watkins and Kadioglu, Derby have undergone a serious change in their ownership.

That has been reflected in a switch up of their transfer strategy, where the club are no longer paying over the odds for players.

Instead, they are aiming to be smarter in their decision-making, signing the right players for the right prices.

The summer transfer window just passed has displayed that clearly, with Paul Warne now stocked with a capable squad and a club that is sensible and sustainable again.
